NBRI develops herbal hair dye, claims no side effects

Lucknow, Nov 14 (UNI) The scientists at National Botanic Research Institute (NBRI) have developed a new hair dye from plants extract that has caught the interest of several cosmetics companies.

The new hair dye, extracted from plants and developed by Lipid chemistry group of NBRI comes in five shades and would pose competetion to popular hair colour dyes avaialable in the market, with its unique formula which would not cause any side effects like itching.

The product has already been patented and its trials are in the final, according to NBRI sources.

Marketing of the product would start after further improvements like reduction in the time of application, which at present is hours, are made.

This formula is in five colours- dark black, light black,brown, red and copper and is likely to be a hit among the consumers for its simple application and herbal preparation.

The NBRI scientists told UNI that the chemical hair dyes popular among the women contain Ammonia and peroxide, which may result in hair fall, loss of shine and various forms of skin allergy.

According ot the trial results, the hair dye developed in this Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) laboratory has been found to have a uniform colouring effect on hair.

The trend of hair colouring has become a major hit among women, men and even teenagers, who are going in for it to enhance their physical appearance. With a significant rise in the popularity of hair colours the cosmetic market is also witnessing an explosion.

The global hair dye market stands at over 60 billion dollars. The contribution of India, however, is less than Rs 40 crore per annum.
