Mullaperiyar: alert sounded, water level crosses danger mark
Idukki, Kerala, Nov 14 (UNI) The district authorities sounded an alert in the Periyar Reservoir area after the water level at the Mullaperiyar Dam crossed the danger mark of 136 feet this morning.
The authorities sounded the alert with water level touching 136.4 feet. However, with the water overflowing into the spillways of the Idukki Dam, there was no danger and no evacuation of people was called for immediately.
Meanwhile, State Water Resources Department Chief Engineer K Diwakaran, who inspected the Mullaperiyar Dam following instructions from Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran, is expected to give his report to the government and the dam safety authority today.
After inspecting the dam yesterday, Mr Diwakaran had said the seepage through the baby dam in Mullaperiyar was ''serious''.
