MP Govt approves creation of 2,000 police posts

Bhopal, Nov 14 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government today approved creation of 2,000 new posts for state police.

A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took the decision that will financially burden the state exchequer by an additional Rs 17.58 crore.

Official sources said the posts included 502 posts for police stations in naxalite-affected areas, 856 in communally sensitive districts, 234 in three newly-created districts, 138 for Special Task Force, 20 for Economic Offences Wing and 250 posts of driver.

The meeting reviewed setting up of 400 forest check posts in sensitive police beats that aimed at curbing forest crimes. As many as 3,240 out of 7,975 police beats are sensitive.

Existing infrastructure will be utilised so that there was no additional burden on the department.

The cabinet sanctioned setting up of a committee to review simple crimes registered in court.

A committee -- headed by Law Minister Narottam Mishra and with Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi and Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh -- was formed.

The meeting decided to do away with exemptions under purchase rules for procurement of medicines and other ancillary items by the Health department.

The decision will benefit 31,400 handlooms and 64,000 weavers as these rules were affecting 375 man hours employment of these weavers.

Most of these weavers belong to minority, SC and ST community.

Now, the purchase will take place through the Commissioner (Handloom) as earlier.
