Kerala to form separate women's police battalion

Thrissur, Nov 14 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said a separate women's battalion would be formed in the state police force.

Speaking after taking the salute at the passing-out parade of women constables at the Police Academy training parade ground at Ramavarmapuram here yesterday, he said the government policy was to increase the strength of women police to ten per cent of the total force.

He said steps would take for direct recruitment of women sub-inspectors and the law would be amended for this, if necessary.

Mr Balakrishnan said the government was considering a request to train Afghan police personnel at the Kerala Police Academy.

Welcoming the entry of graduate and post-graduate degree holders into the force, he said this would increase its efficiency.
