Kalam meets 450 children
New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) President APJ Abdul Kalam today received more than 450 children from various schools of Delhi and surrounding areas on the occasion of Children's Day.
The President impressed upon the children, aged 5-18 years, the need to acquire knowledge to make progress in their careers. He advised them to contribute to the development of the nation by using increasing literacy in rural areas and planting saplings in their schools and surroundings.
Earlier in the day, Dr Kalam met writers of children's literature at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Children's hopes and aspirations should be reflected in the writings of children's literature, he said.
The writers suggested the setting up of a National Children's University and explained their problems.
