Intel Corp.delivers 4 computing engines one microprocessor
Chennai, Nov 14 (UNI) Intel Corporation, the world's largest computer chip maker, has delivered four computing engines inside a single microprocessor with the introduction of two last quad-core processor families.
Announcing the launch here today, Intel Technology India Pvt Ltd Country Manager Ramamurthy Sivakumar said the company had rolled out four processors for servers under the brand name 'Xeon 5300' and a desktop processor under 'Core 2 Extreme.' These products deliver immense speed and responsiveness for general purpose servers, workstations, digital media creation and high-end gaming, he said.
He said the 'Core 2 Extreme' chip was up to 80 per cent faster than the company's current model, while the 'Xeon 5300' chips deliver up to 50 per cent faster performance within the same thermal envelope and the same cost as the previous generation, launched less than five months ago.
Mr Sivakumar said the company planned to offer a mainstream quad-core processor from the first quarter of next year under the brand name 'Intel Core 2 Quad processor. The processor would be an ideal choice for processor intensive, highly threaded programmes such as entertainment, gaming and multi-media activities, he said.
To a question, he said Intel was waiting for the Union Government to unveil its policy on semi-conductors before deciding to set up its manufacturing facility in the country.
Intel Technology India Pvt Ltd, which has an R&D center in Bangalore, also runs offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune and Chennai.
