Indore denizens develop penchant for marathon singing

Indore, Nov 14 (UNI) Denizens of Madhya Pradesh's commercial capital seem to have developed a penchant for setting marathon singing records close on the heels of Akanksha Jachak singing continuously for 61 hours.

Deep Gupta, an instrumentalist in child prodigy singer Palak Muchhal's group, has decided to go further and cross the 100-hour mark.

''Deep will sing for 101 hours at a stretch and his record will be created in Coimbatore,'' Coimbatore-based Annakshetram's Ashok Mehta said in a statement here yesterday.

In the process, an earlier record by a German, who sung for 54 hours 41 minutes without break, will be broken.

''For the past two months, Deep has been preparing for the record,'' he said.

Questioning the veracity of Akanksha's record, Mr Mehta said there was no provision in the Guinness Book of World Records (GBWB) that allowed a liberty of 10 per cent to the person wanting to create a record.

Akanksha had taken a break of five hours while creating the singing record. She began singing at 1128 hrs on November seven and continued up to 1228 hrs on November nine.

Mr Mehta said 250 pounds needs to be deposited to the GBWB's London office and the presence of one member from the organisation was necessary during the creation of record.

Earlier, city-based child singer Anoushka Singhal created record by singing continuously for 18 hours. Another city-resident Khushboo Prajapat (14) claimed to set a new record by singing for 24 at one stretch.

Akanksha (16) recently sang for 61 hours continuosly and claimed the record.
