German national dies in Varanasi
Varanasi, Nov 14 (UNI) A German national suffering from blood cancer who had come to the holy city to spend the last days of his life, died at a hotel here last night, police said today.
They said that German national Schneider Hans Ulrich (65) undergoing treatment for blood cancer died here last night.
He was staying here alongwith a friend since October 23 and was being treated at the Heritage Hospital in the city, police added.
A Post-mortem of the body has been conducted and necessary information has been sent to the German embassy in New Delhi, they said.
A letter has been recovered from the hotel room where Ulrich was staying. The letter purportedly written by Ulrich reads ''It is known to the German authorities that I intend to live last month of my life in India precisely in Varanasi town. It is hereby confirmed that there is no objection to my plan to execute my cremation according to Hindu rites. I want to be cremated on the banks of the Ganga.
