Former BSF Asst Commandant makes immolation bid near PHQ
New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) A 55-year-old former Border Security Force Assistant Commandant made an immolation bid near the police headquarters at the busy ITO crossing in Central Delhi this afternoon.
Shashi, a former Assistant Commandant with the BSF, doused himself at the ITO crossing, yards away from the high security Police headquarters Building, at about 1230 hrs and ran towards the PHQ gate, according to sources.
After he fell near the gate, he was taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital by the police personnel where his condition is said to be critical.
Police said he sustained 90 per cent burn injuries and was not fit to make a statement.
A resident of DDA Flats in Hastal, near Uttam Nagar in West Delhi, Shashi had taken voluntary retirement from the BSF some time back, it added.
