Farmers demand more compensation for land from Petronet
Surat, Nov 14 (UNI) An organisation of farmers from 26 villages in Olpad and Kamrej talukas in the district has submitted a memorandum to the District Collector Vatsala Vasudev, demanding more price for their land, which would be taken over by Gujarat State Petronet Company Limited (GSPCL), for constructing a pipeline.
According to sources, GSPCL wants to construct a pipeline through these villages and plans to takeover acres of land from various farmers.
The company had offered the farmers to pay Rs 3,000 per acre but the farmers say that the price is too low and are demanding a higher price.
''The land the company wants to take over is highly fertile and we want Rs 10,000 per acre,'' a spokesman for the farmers said.
Meanwhile, district collector Vatsala Vasudev had decided to discuss the issue with the company representatives on November 16, sources added.
