Farmer commits suicide in Waveghar in Thane dist

Wada, Thane, Nov 14 (UNI) After the spate of suicides by farmers in Vidarbha region, a tribal farmer from Waveghar in Thane district of Mahrashtra, today committed suicide after he failed to repay loan taken from the Land Development Bank.

The deceased Namdeo Shankar Thackeary, who had been receiving repeated reminders from the bank for repayment of the loan, hung himself from the ceiling of his house to end his life.

Police said the 48-year-old was disturbed as the crops were damaged due to unseasonal rains. Moreover, he had received a notice from the bank asking him to clear his dues within a fortnight or else his house would be attached.

Police found a copy of the bank's notice near his body.

The farmer's neighbour told UNI that the marriage of his daughter was due next month.

Meanwhile, Thane District Rural Unit President of the BJP Cintaman Wanga has condemened the Democratic Front government for its all round failure and expressed serious concern that the spate of suicides which had rocked Vidharbha have now surfaced in the district.
