Congress not to withstand anti-party wave: BJP
Dehradun, Nov 14 (UNI) The BJP's state unit today pronounced itself overwhelmed with the ''positive and unexpected'' response to its ''Satta Parivartan Yatra'' and claimed this indicated the party would sweep the next assembly elections in the hill state.
'' We are getting so much response from the public in just six days after the rally commenced that we are forced to change the schedule of the Yatra to meet the demand,'' party's state General Secretary Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank told reporters here, adding that it bore comparison to the wave in favour of the BJP during the Ramjanmbhoomi movement.
Comparing the present Congress rule in the state with the Emergency period, Mr Nishank, a former Minister, claimed that the way the people came out in streets to welcome the rally was similar to the public behaviour following the ''agonising days of the Emergency'' during the Indira Gandhi regime.
Accusing the present Congress Government following the ''footsteps'' of Indira Gandhi, he said it had almost brought the state to a similar condition, with the arrest of BJP party workers under various sections of IPC and just holding less than 90 days of legislative session in the state in five years. ''It is like an undeclared Emergency,'' he said.
Mr Nishank claimed that the ''immense response'' from the public towards the end of Congress rule indicated the ruling party's defeat in the forthcoming elections. ''Disoriented Congress voters have, at the end, realised their mistakes and are now getting attached to BJP to enable ''satta parivartan (regime change),'' he claimed.
''It will be impossible for the Congress to keep itself standing against the anti-Congress wave,'' he asserted.
Lambasting the Congress government for making 'false' and 'too much' announcements, Mr Nishank demanded a White Paper seeking the number of the announcements made so far and numbers of those fulfilled.
''It is all election gimmicks,'' he alleged.
