Centre allocates more rice for Mizoram

Aizawl, Nov 14 (UNI) The Centre has allocated 3000 metric tonnes of rice to Mizoram due to shortage of food grains following massive bamboo flowering in the state.

Food, Civil Supplies&Consumer Affairs secretary K Lalnghinglova said after repeated pleas the Centre finally agreed to allocate the 4826 metric tonne quota with an additional 3000 metric tonnes.

He also said the rice stock for the winter had already exhausted.

'' The allocation is a relief as there were reports of massive bamboo flowering and subsequent multiplication of rodents, which is expected to destroy the paddy crops,'' he said.
