Army retains shooting trophy, Maharastra runners up
Asansol, Nov 14 (UNI) Army retained team championship with a total of 41 medal haul followed by Maharastra with 30 at the end of the 16th All India C V Mavalankar Shooting competition at Chandmari range here this evening.
Army overtook Maharastra at the end with 17 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze medal and retained the top position like last edition much ahead of Maharastra with 11-9-10 followed by NCC 5-4-4.
Two more meet records were set up at the end of tenth day when Sandeep Jigabapu Parte (Maharashtra) scoring 548 in Free Rifle three position 50 mts (Men) event. Rajesh Kumar had held the record with 545 mark in 2001 at this same venue.
In 50 mts Free Rifle three position (Women) event, Lajja Goswami (NCC ) created new mark scoring 559 points and thus breaking earlier record of 554 points set by N Saini Devi of Karnataka in 2005.
ITBP bagged fourth postion with eight medals including three gold and as many silver.
Host Bengal had dismal performance with 2-2-5. However, Rupam Banerjee hit on the gold when he scored 467 in .22 Standard Rifle 50mts event today.
