78 Child Labourers rescued, 7 contractors booked
New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) Delhi Labour Department officials today raided two 'Zari' factories in the city and rescued 78 child labourers from the units.
Deputy Labour Commissioner K R Verma led the teams especially created to take action against industrial units employing child labour, a statement said.
The factories, located in Khureiji area of East Delhi, were raided after information was received from NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
As many as 29 children out of the 78 rescued were under 14 years and the rest in 14-18 year age group.
FIRs had been registered against seven labour contractors under the Child Labour Act and Bounded Labour Act.
The rescued children had been sent to 'Mukti Ashram' and the department had been instructed to take necessary measures for their rehabilitation.
Most of the rescued children belonged to the Muslim community and hailed from Bihar.
