Sugar Fed should mediate between cane growers, sugar factories

Kolhapur, Nov 13 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation should play the role of a mediator between the sugarcane growers and sugar factories to tackle various problems.

Speaking at a joint rally of farmers, youth and women at the city's Kasaba Bavada suburb here this evening, Mr Deshmukh said the State Sugar Federation should play a pivotal role in deciding about the cane prices and other issues and the State government will lend it all possible support.

Regarding suicides by farmers, Deshmukh said the government was awaiting the report of the Radhakrishna Committee, appointed by the State government by November 30, which will suggest whether to waive off the loan amount of farmers and all possible steps to prevent them from resorting to suicide.
