Sensex sets fresh record of 13,350 points

Mumbai, Nov 13: The market firmed up further in morning trade and the Sensex hit an all-time high above 13,350, brokers said here this noon.

At 12:15 hrs, the Sensex was up 63 points at 13,346. At 10:53 hrs, it hit 13,357.83 -- a fresh all-time high for the barometer index.

Select side-counters surged and Vishal Exports was up 15.7 per cent at Rs 2.94. Gati (up 15 per cent to Rs 100.70), ORG Informatics (up 10.5 per cent to Rs 160.40), Ind-Swift (up 10.6 per cent to Rs 47.30), Forbes Gokak (up 9.8 per cent to Rs 517.50), NRB Bearings (up 9.9 per cent to Rs 528), Bharat Rasayan (up 8.8 per cent to Rs 55.50), Plasticblends (up 6.8 per cent to Rs 169), Simplex Casting (up 6 per cent to Rs 52) and Shyam Telecom (up 10 per cent to Rs 160.30) also surged.

Gujarat Ambuja Cements surged nearly 3 per cent to Rs 138.40, extending its recent surge on the back of firm cement prices. Cement prices are up 28 per cent over the past 12 months, on a national average basis.

HDFC Bank gained 1.4 per cent to Rs 1,059, and ICICI Bank rose 1.2 per cent to Rs 842 extending their recent upmove. The private sector bank shares have been on an upmove following earnings upgrade for FY 2007 by brokerages following strong Q2 results.

Bharti Airtel gained 1.7 per cent to Rs 553. The stock hit a high of Rs 555.50. Last week, the company reported strong subscriptions for October 2006.

Tata Motors rose 1.3 per cent to Rs 829. As per reports, Italy's Fiat plans to make Tata Motors' new 1-tonne, pick-up truck at its plant in Argentina.

Car major Maruti Udyog rose 1 per cent to Rs 917.50. Maruti is seen benefiting from upgradation by two-wheeler owners as per a recent survey.

Bajaj Auto rose 0.6 per cent to Rs 2,615, on reports that the company is set to make a comeback in the scooter segment.

Index heavyweight Infosys gained 0.6 per cent to Rs 2,153.

Another index heavyweight, Reliance Industries (RIL) was flat at Rs 1,287.

Infrastructure Development Finance Company dropped 0.6 per cent to Rs 80.10. The company said on Monday it plans to buy 8.71 per cent stake for Rs 57.46 crore in distressed assets firm, Asset Reconstruction Company of India Limited (ARCIL).

Computer-maker HCL Infosystems gained 5.5 per cent to Rs 167, after it secured a Rs 591 crore order for providing networking facility for a BSNL-run project.

Deep Industries jumped 7 per cent to Rs 34.05, after it received rig and compression services orders worth Rs 16.50 crore from state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.

Sun TV was up 1.8 per cent to Rs 1,450, after the company said it has raised advertisement rates by 5 to 27 per cent across the board, with effect from 1 January 2007. Ahead of the news, the stock had spurted 8.6 per cent on November 10, brokers added.
