SC dismisses petition on Bofors scandal

New Delhi, Nov 13: The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking stay against a Delhi High Court judgement vide which the three Hinduja brothers were discharged in the Rs 64 crore Bofors gun scandal case.

The petitioners Raj Kumar Pandey and Ajay Agarwal had moved an application seeking stay against the impugned high court judgement so that trial against the Hinduja brothers might be resumed.

A bench comprising Justices H K Sema and P K Balasubramanyan dismissed the petition on the ground of being misconceived.

The three NRI Hinduja brothers were facing trial for their alleged involvement in the Bofors gun scandal involving payment of illegal kickbacks to the tune of Rs 64 crore. The government has spent Rs 250 crore in investigation of the case since former Prime Minister V P Singh came to power in 89 by ousting the Rajiv Gandhi government on anti-corruption plank.

The main SLPs challenging the high court order are, however, pending in the apex court and only the applications for interim stay were dismissed today.
