Rahul may be inducted into AICC

New Delhi, Nov 13 (UNI) Congress MP from Amethi Rahul Gandhi is likely to be inducted into the AICC as a General Secretary in the reshuffle expected to take place before the Winter Session of Parliament beginning on November 22.

As a General Secretary, Mr Gandhi may be given the charge of Congress frontal organisations, like Youth Congress, Seva Dal and Mahila Congress, hitherto held by Mr Oscar Fernandes until his elevation as Minister of State for Labour last month, according to Congress sources.

The charge of frontal organisations is believed to be a lighter one compared to the charge of a State for Mr Gandhi,who has been hesitant so far about holding any responsibility at the party level and postponing his decision in this regard. This may also keep him free from any party responsibility towards the four States going to Assembly elections early next year as regards their planning and preparations, according to the sources.

New incumbents are also to be appointed in AICC to fill the vacancies caused by A K Antony beconing Defence Minister in the recent reshuffle and Ms Ambika Soni becoming Tourism Minister in the reshuffle effected last year.

According to sources, many heads may roll in the forthcoming reshuffle of the AICC with more than half of the General Secretaries likely to be replaced.

The Congress may also get one more Spokesman to replace Mr Mukul Wasnik, who was made a Spokesman in the last reshuffle but did not take charge of the new assignment, the sources said.
