Poverty-stricken woman commits suicide by immolation

Allahabad, Nov 13 (UNI) Abject poverty allegedly drove a 55-year-old woman to commit suicide by immolation in Jayantipur locality of Dhoomanganj area here today.

Police said Raj Kumari doused herself with petrol, before setting herself afire atop a pyre prepared by her.

By the time locals rushed, the victim was severely burnt and later died on the spot.

At the time of incident, her three daughters were out of the house, while Raj Kumari's husband lives at Mumbai.

Locals said the family was living in abject poverty.

The case was being investigated.
