Police seize 32 tonnes of seeds
Guntur, Andhra Pradesh,Nov 13 (UNI) Officials of Andhra Pradesh agriculture department and police last night seized 32 tonnes of government subsidised groundnut seeds in the railway station here meant to be illegally transported to Delhi, acording to official sources.
The police were also trying to seize 180 tonnes of government subsidised groundnut seeds to Delhi, It may be recalled that the state goverenment has been supplying groundnut seeds at 50 percent subsidy to tobacco farmers to wean them away from tobacco cultivation.
Merchants have been obstaining the seeds from fake farmers and dishonest agricultural officers who distribute the seeds to tobacco farmers.
