Police encounter leaves 4 Naxals wounded
Nagpur, Nov 13 (UNI) At least four Naxalites were seriously injured in an encounter with the police in a jungle in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra today, the police said.
The encounter occurred this afternoon between villages Markegaon and Gajamendhi, when a group of suspected Naxalites opened fire on a police party on special patrol in the area, Superintendent of Police Shirish Jain said.
The Naxalites fled into the jungle after police retaliated the fire, he said.
The police later recovered some arms and Naxalite literature from the spot. There were no casualties on the police side, Jain said.
The police had stepped up patrolling in Dhanora, Muramgaon and Gyarapatti jungles of Gadchiroli district, Jain added.
