Partner in private seed company arrested

Hyderabad, Nov 13 (UNI) The City Police today arrested a partner in the private seed company for supplying spurious blackgram seeds to farmers during the Khariff season in Andhra Pradesh.

According to a press release here, the police arrested D Kiran Kunar, partner of the Lakshmi Venkateswara Seeds, on a complaint lodged by the Managing Director of the State Seed Development Corporation, The private seed company had signed an agreement with the government to supply 1209 quintals of blackgram seeds to the farmers on subsidy in the Khariff season.

However, the supplied seeds, which were sown, did not yield any result and found to be spurious.

More than 5000 farmers in Krishna, Kurnool, Nizamabad, Karim Nagar and Adilabad were affected and the government money, worth Rs three crore, was wasted.

The accused was produced before a city court and remanded in judicial custody, the release added.
