Parliament likely to pass Bill on Sixth Schedule : Ghising
Siliguri, Nov 13 (UNI) Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) supremo Subash Ghising has hoped the Bill granting Sixth Schedule status to Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council is likely to be passed in the coming winter session of parliament for greater autonomy.
Speaking at a programme near here yesterday, Mr Ghising said he was expecting that the Bill would be passed in the coming Parliament session and the Council elections would take place by May.
He averred that with the passage of the Bill, the Council would be armed with power on the line of other Autonomous District Councils in the North East.
Disgruntled with having very limited power to do anything constructive, the GNLF supremo, heading the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) since 1988, sarcastically dubed himself as a mere watchman of the Council.
