Mild snowfall in higher reaches of HP

Shimla, Nov 13 (UNI) Wintry conditions have set in Himachal Pradesh following another spell of mild intermittent snowfall in high altitude areas of the state for the second day today, while dry spell continued in other mid and lower hills, the met office said.

The high altitude areas and mountain peaks of Chamba, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnuar districts of the state were experiencing mild snowfall since last night, plummeting day and night temperatures across the state.

The met office said the 13,050 feet high Rohtang Pass, the gateway to Lahaul Spiti was also experiencing mild snowfall, which had until now not disrupted vehicular traffic so far.

Thick clouds were hovering over the lower areas of these districts and the met office has predicted rain in lower areas and more snow in the higher areas during the next 24 hrs.

The tourist town of Kullu also received light showers in the afternoon, plummeting temperatures in the entire district, even as snow clouds continue to hover over Manali and other higher reaches.

The sky remained mainly clear over Shimla and other adjoining areas and strong icy winds kept blowing across the town, forcing people to take out their heating appliances.

However, dry spell continued over other mid and lower hills of the state during the last 24 hrs with no report of rain from anywhere, the met office said.

The day temperature in the state capital dropped by a few points today to stand at 17.1 degrees, as against 17.4 degrees recorded yesterday, while recording night temperature of 9.5 degree Celsius.

It said Kalpa in Kinnuar district recorded night temperature of one degree, as against 2.1 degree recorded yesterday, the met office said.

It said Sundernagar and Bhuntar also recorded day temperatures of 26.5 and 23.2 degree Celsius respectively.
