Medical college to be set up in Sirsi soon

Sirsi, Karnataka, Nov 13 (UNI) The Totagara Seva Samiti (TSS) will soon set up a medical and nursing college in Uttara Kannada district, its President Shantaram Hegde Sheegehalli said today.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said the Government had recently offered land for private institutes coming forward to open medical colleges in the State. Accordingly, TSS applied for opening a private medical college at Sirsi and State Medical Education Minister Dr V S Acharya had agreed to the proposal.

To a question, Mr Sheegehalli said minimum 35 acres of land was required for the purpose and the land had been identified. He declined to comment on whether the land of Modern Education Society would be utilised for the purpose.

He said the Government had dropped the idea of setting up a Government medical college at Karwar.
