Main accused in Rangoli Acid attack granted bail

Dehradun, Nov 13 (UNI) The main accused in the acid attack on Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli was today granted bail by a local court.

Avinash Kumar's advocate argued that the police have already arrested the person who had thrown acid on Rangoli and his client has nothing to do with the incident.

He further argued that just being named by the other accused does not prove his involvement in the crime. The District Judge granted bail to Avinash.

On October 5, Rangoli was called out of her rented house at Rispana Nagar, Dehradun by a person saying that a draft was to be delivered to her. As soon as she came out he allegedly threw acid on her and a friend and fled. She sustained burn injuries on her face, chest, hands and legs. Her friend Vijaya also had sustained minor injury in the attack. Later police arrested Avinash from Chandigarh and Prem Singh from Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, police sources said Rangoli had faxed her statement to the police but the prosecution got no opportunity to produce it in court.
