'JIPMER will be made into autonomous institution'

Puducherry, Nov 13: Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Founder Leader S Ramdoss has categorically stated that the centrally administered JIPMER would be converted into an autonomous institution and no one could prevent it.

Addressing a meeting here last night organised to felicitate PMK Lok Sabha Member from Puducherry Prof M Ramadass for getting the name of Union Territory changed to Puducherry from Pondicherry, Dr Ramdoss came down heavily on Chief Minister N Rangasamy and said the Union Territory would not benefit under his chief ministership.

Stating the name change of Pondicherry to Puducherry was a great achievement of the PMK Parliament Member, Dr Ramdoss said the achievement of Ramadass be included in the educational syllabus.

Mr Ramadass had raised his voice in the Parliament for the need to conduct panchayat elections here and had observed a fast to press for the devolution of powers to the elected local body representatives.

It was the PMK, which obtained the Bharathi and Swadeshi mills from the NTC and handed over it to the state government, he claimed.
