Jaques puts the heat on Langer
SYDNEY, Nov 13 (Reuters) Phil Jaques continues to put pressure on Justin Langer for a place in the Australia side for the first Ashes test starting next week in Brisbane.
Jaques made a fluent 107 against England for New South Wales yesterday, his second century against the touring side in three days, while Langer was out for seven playing for Western Australia against Queensland.
Jaques, however is not expecting to oust Langer or his long-time opening partner Matthew Hayden from the test side.
''The two guys that are there are fantastic players,'' Jaques told reporters. ''That's a decision the selectors have got to make but I was expecting they will probably go with them.
''That's where my expectations are but you just never know in cricket and if I am given an opportunity I would love it.'' Langer was caught by Hayden off Andy Bichel at the WACA and Western Australia's other test players, Adam Gilchrist, Damien Martyn and Mike Hussey, all failed to register a half century.
Queensland seamer Mitchell Johnson took four wickets to push his test claims but all-rounder Shane Watson did not claim a wicket in 13 overs.
