HC rejects UP govt applications on AU

Allahabad, Nov 13 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today rejected the applications filed by Uttar Pradesh government for delinking Moti Lal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC) and Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRNH) from the Allahabad University (AU).

The bench, comprising Justices S Ambwani and Dilip Gupta, passed this order on the applications of the state government.

Earlier, AU -- a state university -- under the provisions of UP State University Act, 1971 became a central varsity under the provisions of AU Act, 2005 -- coming into force from July 2005.

The issue raised by the UP government is that 30[4] of the first statutes of AU be amended by the executive council of varsity so as to exclude MLNMC and SRNH as university college and hospital.

The Act declares AU an institution of national importance.
