Followers demand recognition of their Sanamahi religion
Imphal, Nov 13 (UNI) The followers of Manipur's Sanamahi religion have demanded the state government to reserve a code for the Sanamahi followers during the conduct of census in the country.
A Tomba, the general secretary of the joint action committee for inclusion of Sanamahi religion, said the religion should get due recognition as the numbers of followers according to 2001 census was 2,22,348 in the state.
The Sanamahi religion is also followed in other North Eastern states and neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar.
The religion had been formally recognised by the state government but there was no code alloted to the religion during the conduct census, he said.
He expressed hope that state government would provide them with a code in the next 2011 census and expected that the number of followers would have reached to ten lakhs then.
