Durga Malleswara Devasthanam closes ghat road

Vijayawada, Nov 13 (UNI) The officials of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri hill here decided to close the ghat road for vehicular traffic for about four days, after boulders from the hill top fell on the road last night blocking the way of vehicular movement.

Temple Executive Officer E Gopalakrishna Reddy told UNI today that people visiting the temple should trek the hillock by using steps.

Workers were engaged to remove the boulders, he said and added the ghat road was temporarily closed to remove the loose boulders on the hill top if any, keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims visiting the temple.

Fortunately, though there were no casualities after the boulders fell, many pilgrims returned home without visiting the temple. The rockfall was mainly due to heavy rains in the city following cyclone in the first week of the current month.
