DRI officials seize narcotic substance; one arrested

Chennai, Nov 13 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have seized 25 kgs of white powder believed to be Ephedrine, a controlled substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and arrested a person.

A DRI press release said on a tip-off, the officials kept surveillance at the Royapuram area in North Chennai on Saturday and spotted a person on a two-wheeler waiting with a bag, in front of a hotel there.

When questioned, he revealed to the DRI officials that the bag was brought by him as per the directions of his neighbour and that he was to hand it over to another person, who would be coming in a grey coloured two-wheeler.

On examination of the bag, they found the narcotic substance and seized it and impounded the two-wheeler also.

Later, he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody, the release added.
