Biochem to import medicines worth $1 mn from India

New Delhi, Nov 13: In a major move, Germany-based Pharma trading company Biochem Bernburg GmbH (BBG), company will buy chemicals and medicines worth one million dollars annually from Ranbaxy and other pharmaceutical companies.

''Talks are on with some of the leading pharmaceutical companies and all paper works is expected to be cleared by the end of this year,'' BBG Managing Director Hans-Joachim Oetker told reporters here today.

He said it has suppliers across the country such as Hetero in Hyderabad, BDA Pharma and Lyca in Mumbai and Ranbaxy to name a few.

Loratadine, Simvastatine, Omepratole, Ambroxol, Diatepam, Lidocaine, Tramadol are some of the medicines the company would import from the country, he said, adding that these drugs are mainly used in controlling blood pressure, cough, stomach and blood fat reduction treatment.

Mr Oetker is also planning to export its unique and technically advanced haemodialysis kit and salt sets to Indian clinics at a price of 23,000 dollars each.

''Our kit will cut the treatment price up to half of what a patient pays today,'' he said, adding that it is very economical and a very cheap process of manufacturing the dialysis salt.

Mr Oetker said presently the kit is not available in the Indian market.

However, the company is already exporting these kits to Austria, Switzerland, African countries, Lebanon, Iran and Iraq, he said.

The company would set up service centres either in Delhi or in Mumbai by the next year to provide assistance to its clients, he added.

The company is also planning to set up a manufaturing unit for these kits in the country, added Mr Oetker.

Presently, a 15-member political and business delegation from the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, is currently on an eight-day visit to India to forge bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The delegation comprises companies in manufacturing, trading as well as service sectors and are interested in importing, exporting and investing in India, said Birgit Stodtko, MD, International, Chamber of Commerce, Halle-Dessau.

Besides New Delhi, the delegation will be visiting Mumbai and Chennai, said Ajay Singha, Deputy Director General, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce.
