Atwal calls for end to judiciary, legislature tussle
Hoshiarpur, Nov 13 (UNI) Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal today termed the tussle between the legislatures and judiciary ''as most unfortunate'' saying it was posing a threat to the democracy of the country.
While pointing out that the judiciary, executive and legislature were the three independent pillars of democracy, Mr Atwal told mediapersons that these wings should function independently.
Persons of repute should unitedly come out with some concrete suggestions so that these wings avoided unnecessary interference in each-other, s working.
''There should be no mud-slinging against each other,'' he added.
Referring to the utility of MP Local Area Development Fund, Mr Atwal said that it had proved very useful for development especially in the rural areas. In his opinion, a major part of the MPLAD Fund should be utilised for improving the education and health facilities in remote areas, he added.
Keeping in view its utility, the amount of MPLAD Fund should be enhanced from Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore annually, he added.
When asked to comment on the misuse of this fund by some MPs as reported in a section of press, Mr Atwal claimed that these funds were put to good account in Punjab.
He said that he had totally utilized his MPLAD Fund for the development of his constituency.
