8-week rehab program for Yuvraj. no surgery for now: BCCI

New Delhi, Nov 13 (UNI) Ruling out surgery on Yuvraj Singh's injured knee for the time being, the BCCI today announced that the Punjab southpaw will go through a eight-week rehabilitation programme to get him fit in time for next year's World Cup.

''Plan is to follow a conservative rehab path (i.e. non-surgical) initially, with constant ongoing reassessment,'' BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said in a statement.

The announcement comes after BCCI's consultations with team physio John Gloster, who discussed Yuvraj's progress with Dr Anant Joshi, who examined the left-hander today.

Yuvraj had ended up injuring the knee while playing kho-kho during a team practice session. The injury has already ruled him out of the upcoming tour of South Africa.

The dashing left-hander's knee will be examined after the end of the rehabilitation plan and a decision whether to operate upon the knee would be taken thereafter.

''At approximately the eight-week post injury point a thorough clinical appraisal of the overall stability of the knee will be undertaken and at this point, depending upon the findings, either pursue the conservative management or opt for surgical intervention,'' Mr Shah said.

''We would anticipate that at this point Yuvraj will have returned to running activities and as a result the best indications of the overall stability of the knee can be revealed,'' he added.
