Goa Su-Raj Party declares its candidates for assembly polls

Panaji, Nov 12 (UNI) The regional Goa Su-Raj Party, which is for ''good governance'' in the island state, has declared the names of its candidates it is fielding from five constituencies even as the Central Election Commission has not yet announced the dates for holding elections to the 40-member assembly whose term expires in May next.

The party, registered with the EC and constituted on August 31, 2000, had also released a one-hour film 'Naka Tum Dusre Paut' (No Second Term) telling the people that successful candidates would not be given tickets for the second term or at the most third term.

The party, which had unsuccessfully contested the 2002 elections in eight constituencies and 2005 bye-elections in five, had also released audio cassettees to educate the masses on the need for preserving ''Goanism'' for posterity and ensuring overall development of the tourist state.

Ordinary citizens at a simple function held in the capital released the cassettes last evening and the film was also screened for the public.

Announcing the names of the candidates, the party president Dr N S Dumo said, ''The party assures Goa that it will give the state younger generation leaders but onething that the party will not do is to use them for some hidden ulterior motives.'' The party's founder president and now general secretary Floriano Lobo would contest from Aldona constituency. He prepared the 'Road Map for Goa' document which laid down the do's and dont's of the party.

Mr Lobo and others derided the current politics in Goa, which they described as ''nauseating'' encouraging influx of outsiders in Goa.

The gap between the government and the people and the politicians' precepts and practices had to be bridged by the regional parties, he added.
