70 per cent children administered polio drops in Haryana

Chandigarh, Nov 12 (UNI) The very first day of the 3-day Sub-National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation round was a remarkable success in Haryana today, as about 70 percent children in the age group of 0 to 5 years were administered polio drops.

The Pulse Polio campaign was inaugurated by Health Minister Kartar Devi at Primary Health Centre Banyani in district Rohtak.

Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana inaugurated the campaign at Mullana in Ambala by administering Polio drops to children and Revenue and Irrigation Minister, Capt Ajay Singh Yadav inaugurated the campaign at General Hospital, Rewari.

Mrs Kartar Devi said more than 38.50 lakh children would be administered polio drops in this round in the state. Giving details of the campaign, she said that house-to-house activity would be carried out on the second and third day of the campaign for tracing out and administering polio vaccine to the left out children.

About, 15,000 booths were set up in the state which were being manned by about 60,000 health officials, volunteers, Anganwari workers and ASHA representatives.

She said that nearly 2500 officers were supervising the activity apart from Nodal Officers from the state headquarters and independent monitors from PGIMS, Rohtak.

She said during this round, special attention would be paid to slums, farflung areas, isolated hutments, brick kilns, and migratory population.
