UDF to field V M Ummer in Thiruvambadi
Kozhikode, Nov 11 (UNI) The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) today decided to field its leader K V Ummer as the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate for the December 4 Thiruvambadi bypoll.
The candidature of Mr Ummer, Kozhikode district committee member of the party, was announced by IUML supremo Panakkad Syed Muhammedali Shihab Thangal at his residence at Panakkad in Malappuram district.
The CPI(M) has already nominated peasant leader George M Thomas as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate for the bypoll, caused by the death of CPI(M) member Mathai Chacko last month.
The LDF had won the seat for the first time in 2006, ending the monopoly of the UDF, which retained it continuously since the formation of the constituency in 1977.
