Timely action by fire brigade prevents major inferno in Varanasi

Varanasi, Nov 11 (UNI) Timely action by fire brigade personnel today prevented the fire from taking a disastrous turn at a petrol pump here.

Police said that the fire caused by an electric short circuit at the Mukesh Filling Station in Mehmoorganj area destroyed the electronic MPD machine costing several lakhs of rupees completely.

Before the fire could spread further, the fire tenders reached the spot and managed to douse it.

Timely action by fire brigade personnel prevented the fire from not only spreading to the undeground tanks -- holding over 70,000 litres of petrol and diesel -- but also stopped a major disaster in the locality which houses two more petrol pumps within an area of 200 metres.

No casuality, however, was reported in the incident, police added.
