Neha Narwal to get National Child Award

Chandigarh, Nov 11 (UNI) Neha Narwal from Karnal has been selected for National Child Award for the year 2005 by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Miss Narwal had won a Gold Medal and a Silver Medal in Roller Skating in the 51st National School Game held at Ahmedabad in 2005-06.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a silver medal, a citation and a certificate, an official spokesman said here today.

The award will be given to by Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, at a function to be held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on November 14 on the occasion of the Children Day.

The spokesman said Miss Neha, who has rural background, had bagged 51 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 5 Bronze medals in various championships upto the age of 15 years.

The girl had been honoured eight times on the occasion of Republic Day and Independence Day by the District Administration of Karnal.

She had also won Rashtriya Bal Purskar 2002. The Haryana Sports Department had provided her a cash prize of Rs 63,000 during the year 2005-06.
