'Young Muslims have to educate world about Islam'

Srinagar, Nov 11: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said present generation among the Muslims should help erase all the impressions in contemporary world scenario linking terrorism with Islam.

''Some vested elements are trying to give wrong name to Islamic thought and a new impression is gaining ground in the world community about linkage of Islam and terrorism,'' he said.

Addressing a function at the Islamic University of Science and Technology at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, he said it has a definite and vital role to play for imparting quality scientific education to students.

He advised students to understand Islam in its true spirit which propagates truth, honesty, humility, compassion, graciousness, virtuousness and other human values.

He said doctrine of Kashmiriyat based on secular and composite culture is also required to be propagated at the national and international level so that world community is able to comprehend the real secular character of Kashmiriyat as well.

He expressed surprise that impression of Kashmir being one of the violent states still exists at the international level and ''we all have to endeavour to convince world at large that Kashmir is an epitome of peace, love and brotherhood''.

Mr Azad said that situation at world level is leading to clash of civilizations and if intellectuals, philosophers, writers and statesmen do not act in ensuring harmony between various religions, the clash may devour humanity.

Offering to recommend students for further studies in abroad, Mr Azad said that new courses like MCA, MBA, Food and Fruit processing offered ample employment avenues and asked the students to seek admission in such courses.

He said food and fruit processing had enough scope to absorb local youth in a place like Kashmir where fruits and vegetables of different varieties are grown in abundance.

He said establishing of units in food and fruit processing sectors can go a long way to improve socio-economic profile of the people.
