Cop dies accidentally triggering rifle

Coimbatore, Nov 11 (UNI) A 24-year-old city armed reserve policeman was shot dead when his finger accidentally clicked the loaded 303 rifle while he was escorting the postal department officials, who were carrying cash in a van here today.

Police said the mishap occurred when the bullet ripped through the deceased Parameswaran's chin and head. He was declared dead on the spot by the nearby private hospital doctors.

An investigation was underway, police added.
