'Armistice Day' observed in Pondy

Puducherry, Nov 11 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World War I, on the occasion of the 'Armistice Day' observed here today.

Consul General of France in Puducherry Joelle Rayet and Puducherry Health Secretary T M Balakrishnan (on behalf of the Lt Governor) placed wreath on the war memorial at Goubert Avenue here to mark the occasion.

It was on this day in 1918, the World War I came to an end. The French nationals observe the day as ''Onze Novembre'' Day.

Retired French military officials and other French nationals residing in the Union Territory paid homage to the statue of the ''Soldat Inconnu'' (unknown soldier) here to mark the occasion.
