10 farmers commit suicide in 2 days in Vidarbha
Nagpur, Nov 11: As many as ten farmers have committed suicide in the last two days in Vidarbha.
According to a press release issued by the Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region, the ten farmers who committed suicide included three each from Yavatmal and Washim districts, and two each from Wardha and Amravati districts.
While five ended their lives on November 9, five others did so yesterday, the release added.
This has taken the number of suicides by farmers in Vidarbha since June 2005 to 1,082, according to figures compiled by VJAS.
These included 474 who took the extreme step since the announcement of the Prime Minister's package in July last, and 915 since the state government announced a package in December 2005.
