Probe into molestation case by police ordered

Imphal, Nov 10: A division bench comprising of Justice Rajen Gogoi and Justice M.Binoykumar of the Gauhati High Court has ordered the District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East to probe the alleged molestation case on a girl identified as Maibam Naobi Thoubal police commandos.

The ordered was given yesterday following a PIL filed by Advocate M Rakesh of the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), Manipur chapter in the names of president of Nongpok Leingak Nupi Lup, Wangkhei Meihoupham Lampak, Ph Sakhi and member Mema the HRLN informed.

The report has to be submitted within three months counted from November 15.

Naobi was allegedly picked up and molested and confined at the police station by Thoubal police commandos after N Lokhon OC of Police commando was gunned down early in February last by cadres of People's Liberation Army. She had allegedly attended the funeral of a PLA cadre involved in attacking the police officer.

The Manipur government had already ordered a Judicial Inquiry headed by Justice (Retd) SP Rajkhowa and it has already submitted the report to the government.
