Mayawati seeks Mulayam's resignation
Lucknow, Nov 10 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati today sought the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav following a report by the National SC Commission that dalits were being tormented in the state.
''Mr Yadav should step down on moral grounds. If he does not, the Centre should force him to relinquish power...the Governor should also send a report in this regard to the President,'' she suggested.
Addressing reporters here, Ms Mayawati said the recent report of the SC Commisson claimed that dalits and backwards were facing atrocities in UP. ''This has happened during the tenure of the Samajwadi Party-led government...while everyone is facing problems in UP, the backwards and dalits are the most affected.'' The former CM claimed as per the report, of the total cases reported against dalits and backwards, UP alone reported 16.8 per cent cases. ''This proves the state government has failed to protect the interests of the community despite tall claims.'' UNI NAB VS PK DS1534
