Manipur govt to look into tribal student problems

Imphal, Nov 10: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and his Cabinet colleagues were concerned about the problems faced by the tribal students, officials here said.

The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (Atsum) has threatened a stir if its demands were not met.

ATSUM President Dr John Pulamte has stated that it is waiting for a positive response from the government. The ATSUM had called for economic blockade in the state to press its demands.However, most demands were not yet fulfilled.

The Chief Minister also discussed the problems with officials.

The demands included, service extension of District Council employees, pension facilities of the Council employees, conversion of 13 grant-in-aid high schools in the hill districts to full-fledged government institutions, extending service period of teachers appointed on contract basis and implementing reservation policy in central institutes.
