Kurukshetra University sweeps gymnastic events

Kurukshetra, Nov 10 (UNI) Hosts Kurukshetra University bagged all four trophies in the All India Inter University Gymnastic and Malkham Championships, which concluded here today.

Olympian Pargat Singh gave away the trophies to the winning teams and prizes to the individual winners.

According to organiser and KU Sports Council secretary Dr Dalel Singh Chauhan, hosts KU won the Artistic Gymnastic (Men) Championship, pushing Delhi University and GNDU, Amritsar to the second and third places respectively. Pardeep Kumar of KU and Digambar Bisht of Delhi were declared the individual champions in this event.

He said that the KU also bagged the Artistic Gymnastic (Women) championship, whereas GNDU, Amritsar and Punjabi University, Patiala stood at second and third positions.

Kurukshetra's Rekha and Swati bagged first and second positions while Shalu of GNDU, Amritsar got third place in the individual championship.

In Rhythmic Gymnastic (women) championship, KU stood first while, Punjabi University, Patiala and GNDU Amritsar were at second and third positions. Surekha and Pooja Chauhan of Kurukshetra got first and second positions leaving third position for Jasandeep of Patiala.

Dr Chauhan said that Shivaji University, Kolhapur (Maharashtra) picked the trophy in All India Inter University Malkham Championship (Men) whereas Mumbai University Mumbai and SGBU Amravati got second and third positions respectively. Kalpesh Jadav of Mumbai was declared the champion of Malkham in Men's category, while in Women's category, Kelkar again of Mumbai was the champion. Mumbai University bagged the All India Inter University Malkham Championship (Women), leaving second position for Shivaji University, Kolhapur and third position for Bundelkhand University.
