Kolkata to get marine aquarium
Kolkata, Nov 10 (UNI) Kolkata would soon get Asia's third underground marine aquarium after Singapore and Thailand.
The joint sector project involving Rs 500 crore investment would come up in 400 acres of land at the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
The project would have a transparent tunnel featuring marine creatures.
Work would commence once the land is acquired, West Bengal Fisheries Minister Kironmoy Nanda said.
The state government is in touch with Fort group in India and Singapore-based Hawpar group for technical and financial tie-ups.
The Hawpar group had been running a marine aquarium at Santosa island in Singapore.
The aquarium would house marine creatures like rare fishes, sharks and stingrays.
The walls of the aquarium would be made of specially-designed imported glass.
